Nina Hemmingsson (b. 1971) is one of Sweden’s most influential comic artists and a prominent figure in socially critical and satirical visual art. Her work explores political, feminist, and universal themes, blending dark humor with sharp observation to highlight contemporary emotional states and social tensions. Hemmingsson portrays human experience beyond idealized images, often giving space to feelings such as panic, anxiety, and unease — a process she describes as “digging upward,” using art as a way of navigating existence.
